Speaker: John Otto, Seattle Public Library

Transgender people continue to steadily move from a relatively unknown group and into the public consciousness. Hardly a day goes by without seeing a news story about transpeople. Whether we realize it or not, these are people we work with and people we serve in the libraries.

This session is designed to shift attendees' understanding of transgender people from a label category to a more personal understanding. This will enable library workers to better serve their patrons and their fellow co-workers. Vocabulary, etiquette, conscious and unconscious bias, and barriers to locating library materials will be covered.
