This panel consists of four speakers who will discuss their unique experiences, offer useful tips to attendees and engage participants in a lively question and answer period at the end of the session. An archives intern at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian will talk about her personal experiences with academic mentors in undergraduate and graduate school, emphasizing what experts from different fields can offer a young professional. An Assistant Medical Librarian at Kaiser Permanente, will discuss her experiences being involved with both formal mentoring program and seeking informal mentorships and how those mentorships have helped her navigate the library profession. A Regional Librarian at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, will provide useful tips to those who haven't been fortunate enough to locate and cultivate a mentoring relationship in their career and discuss alternative ways to find support from within your organization. A Reference & Instruction Librarian at Haas Arts Library, Yale University, will present an analysis of current library mentorship and what academic literature says about mentorship approaches and their effectiveness for library students and professionals. Note this Spectrum Institute event is open only to current Spectrum Scholars, and invited alumni and guests.
