This special workshop will provide in-depth training on how to create an advocacy campaign and give the basics for helping to train others as well. Library directors, state library development staff, Trustees, and consultants are invited to attend to learn how to work with local library supporters for specific advocacy campaigns, and/or to enhance existing advocacy skills. This workshop will make use of the Citizens Save Libraries Power Guide for Successful Advocacy.

Library Trustees, Friends groups, Foundations, and staff are invited to join a day of information and resource sharing, roundtable discussions, and learning opportunities. Coffee and meet & greet will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the program starting at 10 a.m. The morning will feature breakout sessions with presentations geared specifically for Friends, Trustees, and Foundations. Attendees bring their own lunch (or purchase on site) for “Lunch with an Expert,” featuring open forum roundtable discussions with experts on various topics. The Leaders Orientation program in San Francisco will focus and highlight United for Libraries members that have become leaders in their communities and in library support organizations. The presenters will share their personal experiences and insight in to the way they utilized programs and services of United for Libraries and ALA. The program will offer ways library advocates and stakeholders can join, participate and become the new leaders of the organization. The program is designed to help library advocates and stakeholders identify where they are in their leadership development and how they can achieve the next level of participation within the leadership of United for Libraries.Speakers will include Paula Beswick, director, Bozeman (Mont.)
